Lassen Meadows Ranch is located 8 miles from Chester, California in the Mount Lassen drainage. Only 2 hours from Reno, 3 hours from Sacramento and 4 hours from the Bay area, this trophy trout fishery is one of the area’s finest private still waters.
The ranch is owned by the Margiotta family and a summer home of Russ and Debbie Margiotta. The Ranch has only recently been available as a private fishery. The property sits in the shadow of Mount Lassen and has springs that run into the ranch’s lake year round. Whether just fishing for the day, camping or staying in one of the cabins, Lassen Meadows Ranch offers fly fisherman from beginner to advanced a place to fish and stay in beautiful solitude. The property is ”off the grid” and abundant power is produced by the 1920’s Pelton Wheel.
Fly fishing is offered on Blue Lake, a 25 acre spring fed lake on the ranch. The crystal clear spring that runs into the lake keeps the lake clear and cool all summer. There are large weed beds in the lake that provide perfect habitat for numerous insects that are the main food source to the fish in the lake. This helps grow large and healthy Rainbow Trout reaching excess of 10 pounds. The lake is perfect for float tubes or small pontoon boats.
While fly fishing at Lassen Meadows Ranch, enjoy a variety of choices for lodging. The most popular way to stay is the Meadow cabin. This 2 bedroom, newer, rustic-style cabin has all the luxuries of home and maybe a few more. The cabin has everything from radiant heat in the floors to satellite T.V. a huge wood dining table can easily accommodate 6 - 8 for dinner. The kitchen is loaded with everything an enthusiastic chef could want. The Smith cabin is a vintage a-frame style commanding the best view on the property. It is suitable for 1 or 2 anglers for a night or two. It is perfect for those who do not need full cooking facilities. It is equipped with a coffee pot, mini refrigerator, bar sink, and a barbeque if desired. The cabin has a full bathroom and is very romantic and is great for couples.
There is also a campground on the property located on the lake’s shore. complete with some power and water hookups for R.V.s and outdoor lighting, the campground is a perfect addition for club outings or larger groups. There is a luxury bathhouse with separate rooms for men and women with full showers and a laundry room. The lake is home to a vast array of birds, especially in the late spring, when ducks, geese, sand hill cranes, osprey, bald eagles and more inhabit the lake and surrounding forest. Late spring-early summer is a great time for the wildflower enthusiast. The fishing season is determined by Mother nature. access to fishermen is available when the snow melts off the road leading to the ranch.
