The Reno and Lake Tahoe area is one of the most underrated regions for fly fishing in the Country, with little fishing pressure compared to other flyfishing destinations. The Reno Fly Shop and our summer store Truckee River Outfitters offer local information, guide service to area waters as well as the regions most complete inventory of fly fishing equipment.
California waters include freestone streams such as the Truckee River and several tail waters like the East Walker. Mountain lakes are abundant with famous names such as Davis Lake and Eagle Lake and all have above average sized trout.
Nevada waters, with no closed season, are some of the most overlooked fishing opportunities anywhere. High desert lakes with prolific hatches, numerous streams and rivers with little or no fishing pressure and Pyramid Lake, home of the world's largest cutthroat trout, highlighting the list.

Dry Fly Fishing on the Truckee is Red Hot
One of the advantages for local fly fishermen in the Reno Tahoe area is you can get in a full day’s work, go home and have dinner and be on the river before the action starts. If you like to dry fly fish, now is the time to get out on the river after work. Caddis, Little Yellow Stones, Green Drakes highlight the long list of bugs that are hatching every evening on the Truckee. Give us a chance to help you improve your dry fly skills. Our guides are out on the water daily and would love the chance to take you fishing. Evening Rise trips are $200 for one or two anglers; they start at 6:00pm and go until dark. Go to our guide services page to set up a trip or simply give us a call.
